The Plan

In one week my bike and I will be flying from Berlin to Athens to start a month long trek back to Berlin. The trip will take me along the Adriatic coast, through Greece, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia and up into Austria and Germany.

Here's a fairly close approximation of the route I plan to take.

This will be my first trip to Greece. The entire section from Athens to Munich is all new to me. I've lived in Berlin for a long time but I've still never been to Munich nor in the Alps. That'll change in a few weeks. ;)

Over the last couple weeks I've been collecting and testing supplies and equipment and finally feel as if I'm ready to go. I plan on wild camping along the way, allowing 1-2 nights a week to pay for accommodations.

I'd originally planned on leaving from Berlin at the end of April but needed to move the date to the beginning of April. The decision to start in Athens had several reasons.

  • It's warmer down there in early April.
  • It's easier to pack my bike from here rather than in Athens.
  • If I decide to spend more time south of the Alps, I may not finish the route. It's easier to hop on a train somewhere in south Germany than get back from somewhere along the Adriatic coast.

My route and schedule are almost completely unplanned so I'll be making it up as I go. I intend to cover 100-150 km/day. This should allow for some rest days and get me to Berlin around the May 1st weekend.

I plan on documenting the trip rather well. So watch this space for updates.
